The current church was built in the mid XII century, but according to the “Cronicon Volturnense” in the area there was a place of cult since the beginning of the VIII century.
The building which is the sum of a wise architectonical balance, preserves sculptures of strong expression and full in symbolical meanings, typical of the Middle Age spirituality.
The simple and linear façade features a main door with a lunette above it where it is possible to see on the back ground a crucifer lamb, a winged lion, three human figures and an animal, probably a bull.
For someone the figures would represent the opposition of Christianity to the Paganism.
On the right side of the church the bell tower has a squared basis and dates back to 1329.
In the inside, divided into three naves, the most important element is the pulpit.
The lower part is made out of four columns sustaining a round arch, on one of these, with Carolinge characters it is engraved the date of 1223.
The upper part is divide into seven little niches, hosting sculptures representing some monks, except the central one that feature a reading desk with the lefts of an eagle’s talons.
The three monks on the right symbolise the labour, the prayer and the blessing, while the figures on the left three different moments of the liturgical life.
Remarkable is also the wooden cross and the statue of the Virgin with the Child from the XV century.
